 Abstract

The laser interferometer gravitational wave detectors are poised to make the first direct detection of Gravitational Waves (GW) in the next few years. Research is now focussing on development of next generation technology which will increase the detection range and the  signal  to  noise  ratio   so  as  to  provide  more  events,  better statistics,  and  improved  resolution  of  GW  sources.  I  will  give  a brief introduction to the laser interferometer for gravitational wave detection and its noise sources. I will then discuss the technologies; in  particular,  using  optomechanical  devices,   for  improving  the quantum noise limited sensitivity of GW detectors.
